Origin : Cuba Format : Corona Gorda Size : 143 x 18.26 mm Ring : 46 Weight : 11.41 g Box code : BFI JUN 05 Hand-Made Price : ~$10 each
I purchased a box of Punch Punch at the Dubai Duty Free. Corona gorda is one of my favorite formats and I wanted to see whether this less known cigar can match a Magnum 46 or a Siglo IV.
Appearance : [rating:4.5/5]
The Punch Punch sports a delicious and quite oily maduro wrapper. It had a couple of major veins.
Construction : [rating:4.5/5]
I easily cut it and lit it up. The draw was fine and I only needed one correction keep the burn straight. The pre-draw deploys spice and honey flavors.
Flavor : [rating:4/5]
The first puffs are cedary like a good classic Cuban, with just a hint of spice. The start is quite mild but the power increases little by little. In the second third, I feel some leather notes and the stick is getting stronger, it’s still medium-bodied though. The final third is rather earthy and close to full-bodied. Nice flavor, but a little uni-dimensional.
Value : [rating:4.5/5]
At a little bit over $7 per stick, I am not disappointed.
Overall Rating : [rating:4.5/5]
Although not as complex as the best corona gordas in the league, the Punch Punch is a remarkable cigar. I really enjoyed it. Recommended.

I got a few of these from a B&M near my house (an official outlet of LCDH) at a special offer.I agree it is a 1-d and nothing too special. In fact for some reason it reminded me of the Partagas Aristocrat, and honestly , I’d take the superior (for me) Aristocrat over this, any day.

Tubo SAG ABR 2010. My first Punch: decent cigar but a little one-dimensional as stated here and elsewhere. Full bodied but mild/medium flavored. Cedar, chocolate, with hints of vanilla, honey, and herbs. Not bad, but nothing ground-breaking.

Punch Punch the more famous Corona Gorda of Punch brand (Punch have I think about 5-6 corona gorda in his production more of its discontinued) is a good afternoon cigar if well aged, but in my opinion has not the “peronality” of Corona Gordas of other brands in particular S.Luis Rey Serie A and H.Upmann Magnum 46. The best Coronas Gordas that I have smoked is a Magnum 46 of 1999 (conserved in the wood box vithout anilla) a cigar full of taste, not too strong but with a flavour well characterized, with different taste that change smoking it, but with a costant soft sweet honey note. So that in my opinion Magnum 46 is the number one of corona gorda shape.

probably the worst cigar i’ve ever smoked, very uninteresting flavor, bit harsh(cigar was atleast 1 year old), not enjoyable in any way, waste of money.

Bought a few. Tried one. Oof. Strong, harsh, brawny. Tried another. Uh-uh. Rude and aggressive. Forgot about the others, left them alone in the bottom of a humidor. Three years pass. Startled to see them again. Tried one. KA-BOOM!! Huge! Rich! Dense! Elaborate flavour, voluptuous smoke, superb cigar. Now what do I do? Buy more and hope I live long enough.

This is something I hope to try some day. I have a whole lotta Punch Maduros hanging about (BTW: where’s the review on those?), but it is the original and inimitable Punch Punch that I crave.
In fact: I wish your review had been worse, to better circumscribe my desires…

(I can’t believe how many of these i’ve enjoyed over the years! Great mid-day ”nothing special” smoke, but still a great slice of cuba.

Good review, thanks for the box code. I’ve got a box of XAN JUN 05 that I got from HK. I haven’t had one yet, but I should soon (I try to make 3 years). I’ll let you know what I think. The ones I’ve had have been very good.
